A police encounter occurred in the jurisdiction of Loni police station in Ghaziabad district, resulting in the injury and arrest of a criminal carrying a Rs 50,000 reward on his head. The accused, identified as Gaurav, sustained gunshot wounds to both legs during the incident and was subsequently taken to a district hospital for medical attention.
Police officials stated that they received information about Gaurav, wanted in connection with the kidnapping of Omkar Singh from Ganoli village on May 30, heading towards Nithaura Road. Acting on this tip-off, a police team established a checkpoint near the Nithaura underpass to apprehend him.
During the operation, the police noticed a motorcyclist approaching from the Nithora side. Despite being signaled to stop, the rider ignored the instructions and attempted to flee, leading to a pursuit by the police team. The motorcycle skidded as the accused tried to escape, causing him to fall. Gaurav then fired at the police, prompting a self-defensive response from the officers. In the exchange of fire, Gaurav sustained bullet injuries to both legs and was subsequently arrested.
Following his apprehension, Gaurav was taken to a hospital for treatment. He reportedly confessed during interrogation to his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Omkar Singh, claiming that the victim’s body was disposed of in the Ganganagar area on the Rohta-Meerut Road. A case related to the kidnapping and murder has been registered at the Loni police station, with ongoing efforts to capture the other suspects linked to the crime.
