The Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district organized a mock drill to enhance security measures for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026. The drill focused on improving coordination and response capabilities at strategic locations like Model Naka Chinner, Kijpora, and Margund. Various agencies, including Ganderbal Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and State Disaster Response Force, actively participated in the exercise.
The mock drills aimed to assess operational readiness and inter-agency coordination in handling emergency scenarios during the pilgrimage. Participating teams demonstrated swift action, effective communication, and coordinated efforts to ensure that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingency plans are well-tested. The Ganderbal Police emphasized its dedication to providing a secure and hassle-free pilgrimage experience to devotees during the Yatra period.
The annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. The cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 feet in the Kashmir Himalayas, offers two routes for Yatris – the traditional Pahalgam base camp route and the shorter Baltal base camp route. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure inside the cave shrine symbolizes the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.
