Setting a significant precedent for protecting minors, the Loni Kalbhor Police Station in Pune, Maharashtra, acted swiftly after a reported assault on a six-year-old girl. The incident took place in the Theur area of Haveli Taluka, where the accused, 46-year-old Shridhar Limbaji Kamble, allegedly lured the victim with food and committed a sexual assault. The child’s mother promptly reported the incident to the police.
Recognizing the severity of the crime and the young age of the victim, the police launched an immediate pursuit, apprehended Kamble, and filed a charge sheet within 24 hours. The case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, ensuring swift legal action against the accused.
This rapid response by the police in Pune comes amidst heightened concern following another horrific crime in the Bhor Taluka region. In that case, a 65-year-old man, Bhimrao Kamble, is accused of sexually assaulting and brutally murdering a three-year-old girl.
