The Police in Srinagar district conducted a drive against the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’. The drive targeted chemist shops and druggist establishments near hospitals, inspecting stock registers, sale records, licenses, and other documentation to prevent illegal sale or misuse of drugs. The focus was on curbing the misuse of controlled and prescription medicines, especially among the youth, to build a drug-free society.

Officials warned of strict legal action under the NDPS Act for any violations related to illegal possession, sale, or distribution of controlled substances. The Srinagar Police emphasized that such inspection drives will be regular to ensure accountability, lawful practices, and public health and safety. Shopkeepers were advised to maintain proper records and cooperate with inspection teams to combat drug abuse effectively.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with security forces, are intensifying operations against drug smugglers and peddlers to disrupt the funding of terrorism in the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced punitive measures, including canceling passports, Aadhaar cards, and driving licenses of those involved in drug-related crimes. Daily anti-drug operations are ongoing in various districts, focusing on both enforcement against drug trafficking and rehabilitation of drug victims through compassion and societal reintegration efforts.
