A Police Sub-Inspector named Chetan Kumar from Tumakuru Rural Police Station was apprehended by Lokayukta officials for allegedly taking a bribe to release a seized vehicle. The vehicle, owned by a Bengaluru-based advocate, led to a demand of Rs 5 lakh bribe, with the officer caught accepting Rs 40,000 at a hotel near Kyathsandra.
Following the incident, Lokayukta police interrogated the Sub-Inspector and presented him before a court. The officer has been charged under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on a complaint filed by Nagesh S.K. from Bengaluru. The accused officer had reportedly received the bribe through an intermediary and is currently in custody pending further investigation.
In a separate incident, Inspector Govindaraju from Bengaluru’s K.P. Agrahara police station was also nabbed by Lokayukta officials while accepting a bribe to remove a person’s name from a fraud case. The Inspector, caught receiving Rs 4 lakh at CAR Grounds on Mysuru Road, had previously taken Rs 1 lakh out of a total demand of Rs 5 lakh related to a case under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (BUDS) Act, 2019.
Inspector Govindaraju has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act and placed in judicial custody. Reports suggest that he resisted arrest and displayed aggressive behavior during the operation. A video capturing the Inspector’s outburst during the bribe acceptance has surfaced, showing Lokayukta officials subduing him amid his resistance.
