In response to the tragic deaths caused by toxic country liquor in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Pune Police administration has suspended three officers from the Hadapsar Police Station. The suspended officials, including Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogle, Assistant Police Inspector Hasina Sikalgar, and Police Sub-Inspector Hasan Mulani, faced allegations of negligence and lack of supervision.
These officers, stationed at the Hadapsar Police Station, were actively involved in the crime investigation wing. An official order stated that a case (Crime No. 379/2026) was registered on May 29, citing violations under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949. Investigations revealed that the accused illegally produced toxic liquor, leading to multiple fatalities.
The suspension order highlighted severe negligence by the officers, which contributed to the tragic incident. Following media and social media scrutiny, the department suspended the officers under the Mumbai Police (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1956, and the Mumbai Police Act, 1951. The suspended officers will receive allowances as per the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules, 1981, but are restricted from leaving the headquarters without permission.
The hooch tragedy has sparked public outrage in Pune, prompting swift action by the police department. The suspension of these officers is viewed as a significant step towards ensuring accountability and restoring public trust in the administration.
