The police in West Bengal made significant seizures recently. In Kharagpur, the Government Railway Police found around 13 kilograms of cannabis on Platform No. 2. A 19-year-old named Ashish Kumar from Bihar was arrested for drug trafficking. He was caught with nearly 13 kilograms of cannabis concealed in bags and suitcases. The accused was attempting to transport the drugs from Odisha to Tatanagar in Jharkhand.
In another incident in Sagardighi, Murshidabad district, police arrested two individuals trying to smuggle cannabis using a postal department van. The traffickers, Gobinda Sarkar and Adhir Mandal, were apprehended with about 67 kilograms of cannabis. They had planned to procure the narcotics from Northeast India and bring them into Kolkata by concealing the drugs in a vehicle with postal department stickers. The vehicle had fake government seals and tags to avoid suspicion during checkpoint searches.
Additionally, in Cooch Behar district, police arrested a man in possession of a firearm in the Kharija Baniyadah area. The individual, identified as Ajay Debnath, is under investigation regarding the source of the firearm and his intentions.
