The Police in Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, conducted a crackdown on illegal mining, resulting in the seizure of several vehicles. These enforcement actions targeted illegal extraction and transportation of sand, gravel, and boulders. Near Babateng in Pattan town, five dumpers and four tippers were intercepted carrying sand/gravel without proper authorization.
In a separate operation near Nawan Mode in Kreeri tehsil, one dumper and two tippers transporting mineral material without required permission were seized. The Police have initiated necessary actions under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act against the offenders. Additionally, during routine patrolling near Public Park Kunzer, two tractors loaded with illegally extracted boulders were intercepted, leading to the seizure of the tractors and initiation of an investigation.
The Baramulla Police emphasized their commitment to combating illegal mining activities and urged public cooperation in safeguarding natural resources and environmental balance. Mining of minerals like sand, stones, gravel, and boulders is strictly regulated in Jammu and Kashmir, with legal tenders required for excavation activities. Illegal mining, particularly of minor minerals, poses a significant ecological threat by causing degradation in major riverbeds.
