A police sub-inspector, Sub-Inspector Shrikant Singh, was assaulted in Muzaffarpur’s Katra police station area while trying to resolve a fishing rights dispute. The incident stemmed from a disagreement over fishing rights in a local pond at Basant village. Jitendra Sahani currently holds the fishing rights tender in the pond, previously owned by Fahad Azam, the Sarpanch of Bandhpura Panchayat.
When the dispute intensified, Jitendra Sahani sought police assistance. Sub-Inspector Shrikant Singh, along with a police team, arrived at the scene to ensure law and order and enable lawful fishing operations. However, the Sarpanch and his supporters became aggressive during the intervention and attacked the sub-inspector.
Additional police personnel from Katra police station promptly intervened to control the situation after learning about the assault. The injured officer was swiftly taken to a medical college hospital for treatment. Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar emphasized that strict action would be taken against those resorting to vigilantism, with investigations underway to apprehend the culprits.
