The political controversy surrounding alleged land transactions linked to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his family members has intensified. The Congress is demanding a judicial probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into what they call a “massive land grab” in Ujjain. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari raised concerns over government land worth nearly Rs 500 crore being allotted to a trust headed by the Chief Minister’s cultural advisor for a nominal amount of Rs 1.
Fresh allegations have emerged following claims that Yadav and his family acquired around 168 acres of land in and around Ujjain after he assumed office. The opposition has pointed out that some of these acquisitions were strategically made in areas expected to benefit from future development projects under Ujjain’s Master Plan-2035. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera accused the BJP and RSS of shielding these transactions, alleging a pattern of questionable land-related decisions.
Patwari and Khera criticized the BJP for dismissing the allegations as politically motivated. The BJP refuted the claims, stating that there has been no increase in the Chief Minister’s landholdings or those of his immediate family since 2023. Madhya Pradesh BJP President Hemant Khandelwal clarified that all transactions were legal and supported by official documents, emphasizing that the accusations were baseless attempts to tarnish the Chief Minister’s reputation.
The escalating dispute has heightened political tensions in Madhya Pradesh, with the Congress vowing to uncover more scandals while the BJP maintains that the accusations are groundless and aimed at defaming the Chief Minister.
