A political uproar unfolded in West Bengal when Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee faced an attack by a mob during his visit to Sonarpur. Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar condemned the incident, stating that Banerjee would have to deal with the repercussions of his statements. BJP leader Majumdar criticized the attack but also took a dig at the Trinamool leader for his actions.
The BJP leader remarked, “We do not endorse such undemocratic protests. However, certain incidents occurred against us before the elections. Abhishek Banerjee, in a public appearance, made remarks hinting at future actions, and now he must face the consequences of his words.” Majumdar emphasized the need for Banerjee to exercise restraint in his statements.
West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul criticized the ruling TMC, highlighting the public’s frustration accumulated over the years due to the actions of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. She pointed out the difference in the current government’s response compared to previous administrations, indicating a shift in governance styles.
Meanwhile, JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad strongly condemned the attack on Abhishek Banerjee and urged for strict action against those involved. The incident has escalated the political tensions in West Bengal, with accusations flying between the ruling BJP and opposition parties regarding violence and the state’s political environment.
The attack on Banerjee, who is the nephew of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, occurred while he was visiting a family affected by post-poll violence. Protesters reportedly pelted stones and eggs at his convoy, leading to a chaotic situation where Banerjee had to be escorted away wearing a cricket helmet for safety. He was later taken to a hospital for examination but was discharged after medical assessment.
