Political tensions heightened in Bihar when Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Members of the Legislative Council, led by Rabri Devi, protested outside the Bihar Legislative Council. The RJD MLCs displayed posters accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of intimidating opposition members and running a corrupt administration. The posters bore messages urging the Chief Minister to stop threatening MLAs and to address the alleged corruption in the government.
The protest stemmed from a recent confrontation between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi in the Bihar Legislative Council. During this exchange, Nitish Kumar reportedly referred to Rabri Devi as a “girl,” a comment deemed derogatory by the RJD. This remark led to strong criticism from Rabri Devi’s son, Tejashwi Yadav, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
Tensions have been escalating in the Legislative Council since the incident, with frequent clashes between the ruling alliance members and the opposition. Prior to the protest, a verbal altercation occurred between RJD MLC Sunil Kumar and Minister Ashok Choudhary, where allegations of abusive language were exchanged. Senior RJD leader Bhai Virendra intensified the political discourse by launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, questioning his mental state and the guidance he receives.
In response to the growing controversy, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha sought to ease tensions by highlighting the familial relationship between Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi. He emphasized that misrepresenting the Chief Minister’s sentiments and politicizing the issue was inappropriate. The unfolding events have sparked intense political debates in Bihar, with both the ruling alliance and the opposition engaging in heated exchanges within and outside the legislature.
