The political landscape in Tamil Nadu faced heightened uncertainty as Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran raised concerns about a missing party MLA amid efforts to secure a majority in the state Assembly. Meanwhile, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay, whose party fell short of the majority mark, garnered support from parties like Congress, CPI, and CPI(M) to bolster his claim to form the government. Despite presenting letters of support, Governor Arlekar refrained from inviting Vijay to take oath, citing the absence of a clear majority.
Dhinakaran, in a late-night meeting with the Governor, asserted the AIADMK’s right to government formation and highlighted suspicions of “horse-trading” by rival factions, pointing to the disappearance of AMMK MLA Kamaraj. Allegations of defection attempts were also directed at TVK, with Dhinakaran questioning the party’s commitment to ethical politics despite its electoral support. The AMMK leadership plans consultations with allies to chart the next steps amidst the ongoing political deadlock.
