The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Kokku Gopinath, an Inspector of Posts in the Wanaparthy Division of Telangana, for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a complainant. The CBI initiated the case against the Superintendent and Inspector of Posts, Wanaparthy Division, and others for extorting Rs 1.30 lakh from the complainant and demanding an additional bribe of Rs 30,000 to release pending salary.
Following a trap set by the CBI, the accused Inspector was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The arrested official was presented before the Court of Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases in Hyderabad and has been remanded to Judicial Custody until May 20. Searches were conducted at the residences of the accused in Badangpet, Rangareddy district, and Warangal Cross Road, Kammam, Telangana.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, as stated by the CBI. Additionally, the CBI has urged the public to report any corruption complaints in Central government departments, public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies, and Railways in Telangana to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, CBI, ACB, Hyderabad.
In a separate incident, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana apprehended two forest officials, Santhapuri Sujatha, Forest Divisional Officer (FDO) in Bhadrachalam, and Bhukya Krishna, Deputy Range Officer (DRO) of Tegada & in-charge Forest Range Officer in Charla. The officials were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh at the Forest Divisional Office, Bhadrachalam, for refraining from filing cases against the complainant regarding alleged damage to forest trees during road construction.
