The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) by the Central government is making a positive impact on the workforce in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Many women in the district have undergone training in various vocational skills through this scheme, enabling them to earn a livelihood. Around 200 women have been trained under this program, engaging in activities like jute bag making and handicrafts.
This initiative has led some women to establish their own businesses, either independently or through Self-Help Groups, resulting in a stable income. The growing demand for jute bags and handicrafts has provided them with a lucrative opportunity that they have successfully utilized. As a result, these women have not only enhanced their financial status but also gained self-confidence.
The beneficiaries of the program have expressed gratitude for the self-reliance it has brought them. By acquiring new skills, they are now able to support their families financially and play a more empowered role in society. Participants like Priyanka Devi have found value in learning tailoring, enabling them to create clothing for personal use and future benefits.
Himanshi and Seema, other beneficiaries, have also praised the training they received, acknowledging its role in enhancing their employability and financial independence. They highlighted the newfound independence and ability to earn money, emphasizing the positive impact of the skill development program on their lives.
