The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district is proving beneficial for numerous pregnant women. A recent health camp at the district hospital attracted hundreds of expecting mothers for free health check-ups and tests. The hospital identified 14 women with high-risk pregnancies who were then given specialized monitoring and counseling.
The PMSMA, a government scheme, offers antenatal care to pregnant women during the second and third trimesters. The women attending the check-up camp received screenings like sonography, blood tests, and medical consultations at no cost. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the initiative, emphasizing the relief it brings to underprivileged and rural women.
Vaishali Bhalekar, a beneficiary, praised the scheme for providing thorough and cost-free check-ups. Another beneficiary, Nandini, appreciated the free medical treatment received under the program. The campaign aims to ensure safe motherhood by timely identification of complex cases for appropriate medical intervention.
Gynecologist Dr. Sarita Golkar highlighted that women undergo comprehensive check-ups covering physical and mental health under the initiative. The campaign also focuses on providing guidance on nutrition and dietary habits to pregnant women. The ‘Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva’ campaign conducts health camps on the 9th and 25th of every month to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and promote safe motherhood.
