The PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) initiative is driving healthcare improvements in India, making advanced AIIMS facilities more accessible in remote regions, as per government statements. Launched in 2015, PRAGATI serves as a digital platform to expedite projects, schemes, and grievance redressal by enabling real-time reviews by the Prime Minister in collaboration with states and Union ministries.
During the 50th PRAGATI meeting on December 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that PRAGATI plays a crucial role in achieving the national goal of “Viksit Bharat in 2047.” The initiative has significantly contributed to the establishment of new AIIMS campuses in various regions, facilitating governance reforms that translate into tangible health outcomes.
PRAGATI’s impact is evident in AIIMS Guwahati (Assam), Jammu, and Bibinagar (Telangana), where it has expedited the development of critical healthcare infrastructure. These AIIMS projects showcase how effective leadership-driven platforms can streamline complex health infrastructure projects, enhancing critical-care capacity, medical training, and research opportunities in previously underserved areas.
In AIIMS Guwahati, the PRAGATI platform played a pivotal role in addressing challenges related to land development, utilities, and coordination between different agencies, ensuring the successful completion of a 750-bed hospital with comprehensive medical facilities. Similarly, at AIIMS Bibinagar and AIIMS Jammu, PRAGATI resolved key issues like water supply, power connections, and infrastructure development, leading to the timely completion of these healthcare facilities.
The Ministry of Health highlighted that PRAGATI has not only accelerated decision-making processes but also identified and resolved issues that could potentially delay projects, leading to significant cost and time savings. Since its inception, the initiative has monitored projects worth nearly Rs 86 lakh crore, resolving thousands of flagged issues and driving governance reforms in the country.
