President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards for 2026 at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday. The ceremony will include 65 awardees, such as former Union Minister Shibu Soren, Tennis star Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, and singer Alka Yagnik. Notable attendees will be Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other dignitaries.
In the Second Civil Investiture Ceremony, the President will confer 65 Padma Awards, comprising two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri. The awards cover various fields like art, social work, science, sports, and civil service. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is for exceptional service, ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service, and ‘Padma Shri’ for service in any field.
The Padma Awards, among the highest civilian honors in India, are announced annually on Republic Day. The list of awardees for 2026 includes two Americans, a Russian, and a Georgian citizen. Notable recipients are Doctor Dattatreyudu Nori from the US for Medicine and Russia’s Liudmila Khokhlova for Literature and Education.
Former Union Minister Shibu Soren will receive a posthumous Padma Bhushan, while P. Narayanan and Justice (retd.) K.T. Thomas will be awarded Padma Vibhushan. The ceremony will recognize individuals from diverse fields like literature, education, public affairs, and sports.
