Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident and pledged Rs 2 lakh in financial support to the families of the deceased. He also extended his wishes for the swift recovery of the injured and allocated Rs 50,000 in assistance for them.
At least 20 individuals lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries following a major fire at the multi-storied Lemon Green Restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, as per officials. A total of 37 individuals have been rescued and transported to hospitals, with ongoing efforts to locate others.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement expressing condolences for the lives lost and wishing a prompt recovery for the injured in the Malviya Nagar fire incident. The PMO assured that authorities are providing all necessary aid to those affected. An ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be granted to the families of each deceased individual, with Rs 50,000 allocated for the injured.
Senior officials from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and rescue services are actively overseeing the situation at the site. Immediate dispatch of ten fire tenders helped bring the fire under control, although significant damage was reported. Some individuals resorted to jumping from upper floors to escape, resulting in critical injuries among the rescued.
Efforts for search and rescue are ongoing, with officials striving to locate any individuals possibly trapped on various floors of the building. The injured have been transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment, with some in critical condition.
