Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport, a significant development for Rajasthan’s aviation sector. Costing Rs 480 crore, the project aims to enhance regional air connectivity, improve passenger convenience, and boost tourism and trade in western Rajasthan.
Spanning over 23,000 square meters, the newly constructed terminal has the capacity to accommodate 2 million passengers annually, a move that will significantly enhance the airport’s ability to handle the growing air traffic in the region. Inspired by Rajasthan’s architectural heritage, the terminal seamlessly integrates traditional design elements with modern infrastructure.
The terminal’s design incorporates motifs and architectural styles that reflect the state’s cultural legacy while offering contemporary passenger amenities to enhance the overall travel experience. With a focus on sustainability, the building incorporates energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and green building practices, aligning it with environmentally responsible aviation infrastructure.
The inauguration of the new terminal is expected to improve domestic and regional connectivity for Jodhpur and neighboring districts, making the city more accessible to tourists and business travelers. This development is anticipated to strengthen Jodhpur’s position as a prominent tourism destination and create new opportunities for commerce, investment, and employment in the Marwar region.
Prime Minister Modi also launched the revised UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme during the event, aimed at expanding affordable regional air connectivity across India. The revamped scheme seeks to operationalize more airports, enhance access to underserved regions, and bolster the country’s aviation ecosystem over the next decade.
