Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in the Seychelles capital to discuss their bilateral relationship. This marked their fourth meeting since Ramgoolam took office in November 2024.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, the leaders reviewed various aspects of the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership. Discussions included development cooperation, maritime security, trade, capacity building, and people-to-people ties, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The two Prime Ministers also talked about their ongoing bilateral cooperation and assessed the progress in implementing the Special Economic Package provided by India. Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s commitment to Mauritius’ development and highlighted how the bilateral projects would benefit Mauritius in healthcare, connectivity, sustainable development, and the blue economy.
They acknowledged the importance of the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership under India’s Vision Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR) and Neighbourhood First policy. Both leaders expressed their dedication to the Global South and pledged to continue collaborating for mutual growth and ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar had visited Mauritius in April for the inauguration of the first dedicated renal transplant unit in the country. He assured that the healthcare sector cooperation between India and Mauritius would further expand. During the inauguration, EAM Jaishankar highlighted the historical ties between the two nations and conveyed Prime Minister Modi’s warm regards to the people of Mauritius.
