Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed in Jakarta with a grand ceremonial reception, marking the start of his official visit to Indonesia. As he arrived at the Merdeka Palace, he was greeted by enthusiastic schoolchildren waving the national flags of both countries. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto extended a warm welcome to PM Modi, and the two leaders shared a friendly embrace.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi is set to engage in bilateral discussions with President Subianto to enhance the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The leaders are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in defense, maritime partnerships, critical minerals, food security, and the digital economy. This visit signifies PM Modi’s first bilateral trip to Indonesia since the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
During the visit, PM Modi and President Subianto will also visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple complex and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This visit aims to further strengthen the cultural bonds between the two nations. Additionally, restoration work at the temple complex is expected to be announced during the visit, as mentioned by India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Indonesia is part of his three-nation tour, which will also include high-level engagements in Australia and New Zealand.
