Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Sanand for its global reputation in innovation and industrial growth ahead of his visit to Gujarat. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming inauguration of the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility as a significant milestone for India’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions.
The new facility in Sanand, developed with an investment exceeding Rs 7,500 crore under the ‘India Semiconductor Mission’, is one of the first four semiconductor projects approved by the Centre. It signifies the beginning of commercial production and is expected to cater to various sectors such as automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G, and the Internet of Things.
The CG Semi OSAT facility, once fully operational, will offer end-to-end semiconductor assembly and testing services, including wafer sorting, assembly, testing, package design, and logistics support. With an annual production capacity of up to five billion semiconductor chips, it aims to meet the increasing demand across multiple technology-driven industries.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has become a hub for semiconductor investments, with six approved projects in the state under the Mission. This initiative aligns with the government’s strategy to establish a domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and enhance India’s global position in the semiconductor value chain.
