A pro-Hindutva group lodged a fresh complaint with the Cybercrime Division of Kolkata Police against Mamata Banerjee, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal, accusing her of making provocative statements against the Home Ministry. This action followed an FIR filed by the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha in Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station based on a lawyer’s complaint. The group urged for strict legal action to be taken against Banerjee.
Chandrachur Goswami, the group’s West Bengal president, highlighted that Banerjee’s remarks during a demonstration in central Kolkata on June 2 had tarnished the image of the Indian government internationally. He emphasized that her comments had the potential to incite communal violence and were deemed anti-nationalistic. The group demanded that the Cybercrime Division of Kolkata Police act against Banerjee to safeguard the nation’s unity and integrity.
During a protest meeting on June 2, Mamata Banerjee insinuated that she was aware of the perpetrators even in cases of murders occurring in other countries. She specifically criticized the Home Ministry, citing an incident where an accused from Bangladesh was arrested by the STF, leading to protests. The group’s complaint underscored that Banerjee, during her tenure as Chief Minister, could have directly addressed such matters with the Union Home Ministry instead of making public accusations now, potentially straining India-Bangladesh relations and damaging the country’s global reputation.
