Authorities in Ahmedabad are intensifying their investigation into the deaths of Yashrajsinh Gohil, the nephew of senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil, and his wife, Rajeshwariba. The couple was discovered dead with gunshot wounds at their home in the Bodakdev area of Ahmedabad late Wednesday night. Police have sent the bodies for forensic post-mortem examinations to determine the circumstances of the incident and whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
Preliminary findings, along with Yashrajsinh’s mother’s statement, suggest a potential accidental discharge of the firearm, as stated by ACP (A Division) Jayesh Brahmbhatt. While the initial investigation leans towards an accidental shooting rather than intentional harm, the forensic post-mortem is expected to provide clarity on the matter.
According to reports from police and emergency services, the 108 ambulance service received a distress call around 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday. Medical responders promptly arrived at the couple’s residence at NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road. Yashrajsinh guided the paramedics to their apartment, where they found Rajeshwariba with a gunshot wound in the bedroom. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the ambulance team was notifying authorities, Yashrajsinh reportedly used the same licensed revolver to take his own life in the presence of his mother and the medical team. The police were summoned and arrived at the location shortly after. Yashrajsinh, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, had recently married Rajeshwariba, and the couple resided with his mother.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi mentioned that Yashrajsinh was handling his licensed revolver in the bedroom when it accidentally discharged, resulting in a fatal injury to Rajeshwariba. Following her tragic demise, Yashrajsinh, overwhelmed by shock, turned the weapon on himself. The authorities have confirmed no prior complaints involving the couple and are exploring all possibilities, including accident, homicide, and suicide, pending the forensic findings.
