Project Ganga, a significant initiative by the Yogi Adityanath government, is nearing its launch in Uttar Pradesh. The project aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to over 20 lakh rural households within the next few years. This endeavor is expected to be closely overseen by government officials, with the support of thousands of digital entrepreneurs and service providers.
The primary objective of Project Ganga is to establish a comprehensive network offering broadband connectivity, free public Wi-Fi, cyber security solutions, IPTV, and digital services in rural areas. Launched in July 2025, the project has made substantial progress, including the signing of an MoU earlier this year in the presence of UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
Through Project Ganga, a digital service provider network will be created to ensure rural communities have access to the Internet and advanced digital services. This initiative not only focuses on providing Internet access but also aims to equip villages with the necessary infrastructure for upcoming digital technologies. Additionally, the project will offer facilities such as freelancing support, online vocational training, and digital libraries to enhance opportunities for rural youth.
The Yogi government views digital connectivity as essential for the future economy of Uttar Pradesh. Project Ganga is envisioned to not only boost the digital economy in rural areas but also lay a strong foundation for the state’s economic growth, aligning with the ‘Connected Villages, Prosperous UP’ vision.
