Over 100 prominent citizens from India and Pakistan have penned a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging an end to ongoing hostilities between the two countries. Among the signatories is RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha, who emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people connections.
Jha highlighted the distinction between the state and its citizens, emphasizing that cultural elements like music, films, and stories transcend borders without needing visas. He stressed the significance of fostering understanding between individuals while allowing governments to address bilateral issues separately.
The appeal, initiated by the Centre for Peace and Progress and endorsed by 117 individuals from both nations, advocates for concrete steps to restore peace, dialogue, and normal bilateral relations. The signatories include political figures like Farooq Abdullah, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mehbooba Mufti, and Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, among others.
The joint plea underscores the detrimental impact of prolonged hostility on the youth, hindering opportunities, prosperity, and a secure future for millions. It calls for a collaborative effort from both governments to alleviate tensions and pave the way for peaceful coexistence.
