A 31-year-old property dealer was fatally shot outside a gym in Chandigarh’s Sector 9 in broad daylight, causing alarm in the area. This incident marks the second shooting in less than 24 hours in Chandigarh, the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana.
The victim, Charanpreet Singh, a resident of New Chandigarh, was attacked by two men on a motorcycle who fired multiple rounds at close range. Singh, who had arrived at the Body Zone gym, sustained severe gunshot wounds to his arm and torso, collapsing inside his vehicle.
Despite being rushed to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) by associates, Singh succumbed to his injuries on the way. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, with authorities considering potential personal or business rivalries as possible reasons for the attack.
In a separate incident the previous night, unidentified assailants entered Panjab University’s campus, firing shots near the Department of Botany. The suspects, believed to be involved in gang activities, fled the scene after threatening a former student leader and snatching a motorcycle at gunpoint.
