The plan to demolish 38 buildings at Jauhar University in Rampur has stirred a dispute, with the Congress criticizing it as a diversionary move by the state government. UPCC Chief Ajay Rai labeled the demolition proposal for the university, founded by SP leader Azam Khan, as more politically motivated than legal.
Rai accused the state administration of orchestrating the timing of the demolition notice to divert attention from the Ram Temple donation embezzlement scandal. The Rampur Development Authority issued a notice alleging that 38 out of 40 university buildings were constructed without proper authorization.
According to Rai, the university, established in 2005, had obtained necessary permits and licenses from the Zila Panchayat, which had the authority to approve building plans at that time. He questioned the impartiality of the process, highlighting the suddenness of the 17-page demolition order issued by the RDA.
Rai emphasized that the Jauhar University, accommodating students from diverse backgrounds, had adhered to all required standards. He criticized the government for targeting educational institutions and suggested that instead of demolition, the state should consider taking over the university’s operations to protect students’ interests.
