A protest by factory workers in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, escalated into violence due to dissatisfaction over low wages and unmet demands for salary increases. The workers, employed in private manufacturing units, caused traffic chaos on the Noida Link Road, leading to significant disruptions. The protesters expressed frustration over the disparity between their salaries and the rising cost of living.

Several workers voiced their concerns, highlighting the challenges they face despite years of service in the same company. They emphasized the need for higher wages to meet basic expenses and sustain their households. The workers demanded a minimum monthly salary of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 to cope with the increasing cost of living.

Issues such as rising housing costs and inadequate compensation for overtime work were also raised by the protesting workers. They called for fair wages that reflect the current economic conditions and enable them to cover essential expenses. Despite assurances from authorities regarding overtime pay and bonuses, the workers remained steadfast in their demand for a substantial salary hike to ensure a decent standard of living.

The situation turned tense as clashes erupted between the protesters and the police, leading to reports of stone-pelting. Security measures were heightened to maintain order and prevent further unrest in the area. District Magistrate Medha Roopam assured that steps are being taken to address the workers’ grievances, including ensuring double wages for overtime and mandatory weekly offs.
