A protest organized by students in Patna on Wednesday escalated into violence, resulting in clashes with the police and disruptions in key areas of the city. Initially peaceful, the demonstration near Gate No. 10 of Gandhi Maidan turned tense as more students joined the protest.
The students were advocating for the implementation of University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and a 65% reservation quota. The situation intensified when the protesters attempted to advance from the JP Roundabout, leading to a confrontation with the police.
As tensions rose, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd, causing brief chaos and minor altercations between the protesters and law enforcement. Despite the crackdown, the demonstrators persisted and moved towards Dak Bungalow Crossing, where new barricades were set up.
