A protest demanding a degree college in Nagarnausa, Nalanda district, escalated into violence as clashes erupted between demonstrators and police during a road blockade. The clash led to injuries to three police personnel, damage to government vehicles, and the arrest of ten individuals. Local residents revealed that the demand for the college had been pending for years, prompting a large gathering of students, parents, and villagers to block a major road in protest.
Eyewitnesses reported that what began as a peaceful demonstration turned chaotic when some protesters started throwing stones and bricks at the police, resulting in damage to several government vehicles. Despite the administration’s deployment of a significant police force and drone surveillance, the situation spun out of control. Senior officials, including Hilsa ASP Kumari Shailaja and SDM Amit Kumar Patel, rushed to the scene upon learning of the unrest.
As the stone-pelting persisted despite appeals for calm, police resorted to firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and restore order. The protesters eventually retreated, allowing authorities to regain control. ASP Kumari Shailaja confirmed the injuries to three police personnel and the arrest of ten individuals for allegedly obstructing government work and participating in violence. Police are now identifying additional suspects through drone footage and video recordings from the protest.
In the aftermath, police conducted a flag march through Nagarnausa market and other sensitive areas to prevent further disruptions. Traffic, which had been disrupted by the blockade, has now returned to normal.
