Protests broke out in various locations following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 3. Students and student organizations raised concerns about the credibility of the examination system and demanded strict action due to an alleged paper leak.
Many students expressed distress over the cancellation, stating that it had a significant emotional and financial impact on millions of aspirants who had dedicated months to preparing for the test. The allegations of a leaked paper before the exam further dampened students’ morale and disrupted their future plans.
Student organizations intensified their criticism of the examination body and the government, calling for accountability and an independent investigation into the alleged leak. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) emphasized the need for concrete actions against those involved in the paper leak network to ensure justice for affected students.
The NSUI urged for the dissolution of institutions like the NTA, demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and called for a thorough probe into the paper leak scandal. NSUI President Vinod Jakhar highlighted the lack of clarity from the government regarding the leak and emphasized the importance of holding responsible parties accountable.
