Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) separately protested against Rahul Mamkootathil, an expelled Congress MLA arrested in connection with a rape case. The demonstrations occurred when the police took the MLA to a hospital for a medical examination after his interrogation.
Activists from the youth organizations surrounded the police vehicle at the hospital, chanting slogans and accusing the MLA. Protesters questioned why someone facing serious criminal allegations was receiving political support and demanded strict legal action. The situation escalated, leading to heavy security deployment by the police.
Amid intense protests, the police escorted Rahul Mamkootathil into the hospital under tight security. Scuffles reportedly broke out as authorities tried to control the unrest. The MLA was arrested dramatically in connection with the third rape case against him, based on a complaint filed by a woman from Pathanamthitta district.
After being detained, Rahul Mamkootathil was taken to the Pathanamthitta AR Camp for questioning by a Special Investigation Team. The police emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, including sexual assault, forced abortion, and financial exploitation. The arrest and subsequent protests have heightened political tensions in the district, with demands for accountability and a fair investigation.
