Protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have accused security forces of committing atrocities as they persist in demanding their rights. Despite crackdowns, the protests remain strong, with demonstrators showing resolve. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan is reportedly aiding infiltration attempts amid the ongoing unrest, raising security concerns along the border with India.
The main protests are centered in Muzaffarabad and Rawalkot, close to the Line of Control (LoC) with India. Due to hardships and limited essentials, officials fear potential crossings into India. The ISI is allegedly planning to exploit the crisis to send terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir, with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) having launchpads in PoK.
Security agencies are vigilant as the ISI aims to activate launchpads in Muzaffarabad and Rawalkot, with an estimated 300 terrorists waiting to infiltrate. The ISI sees impactful attacks as a means to instill fear, focusing on softer civilian targets. Strengthened security measures pose challenges for terrorist groups, prompting the ISI to seek significant strikes to boost morale and recruitment.
Tourism decline post-terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir has been detrimental to the region’s economy. The ISI’s alleged targeting of tourist spots aims to sow fear and disrupt peace. By creating economic distress, the ISI hopes to incite violence and unrest, diverting attention from internal crises in Pakistan.
