Residents of Sarvekai and Barwand areas in Pakistan’s Upper South Waziristan district staged a protest against the ongoing disruptions in mobile network signals and internet services. The locals expressed concerns over the prolonged suspension of communication facilities, affecting daily life and essential services. The protest highlighted the challenges faced by people unable to connect with family members ahead of Eidul Azha due to the 10-day disruption in mobile and internet services.
The demonstrators emphasized the adverse impact of the service suspension on business activities, education, and emergency communication. Students faced difficulties accessing online learning materials, while traders suffered financial losses from the lack of internet-based transactions. The protesters also noted the challenges faced by patients and individuals requiring urgent assistance, as the disruption hindered contact with hospitals, rescue services, and relatives during emergencies.
In a separate incident, students at the University of Balochistan sub-campus protested in Mastung district over delays in receiving laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme and prolonged internet outages. The students accused authorities of causing delays in laptop distribution, affecting their academic pursuits. They criticized the prolonged internet shutdown for impeding online classes, research, and educational activities, urging authorities to address the issues promptly.
