Public anger has escalated in Jharkhand’s Chatra district following the death of a CRPF jawan in a road accident in Simaria. The protest has caused a traffic standstill on major roads, disrupting travel. Demonstrators are demanding compensation for the jawan’s family, the arrest of the driver involved, and a halt to coal transportation on specific routes.
The fatal incident occurred when a truck hit CRPF personnel Lakshman Kumar Yadav, 28, who was riding a motorcycle. Despite medical efforts, Yadav succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to a hospital. The truck driver fled the scene, prompting a search operation by the police.
Family members and locals staged a road blockade with the victim’s body, expressing concerns over the safety risks posed by coal transportation. They criticized authorities and companies for not ensuring road safety despite previous accidents. Protesters vowed to continue until coal transport is stopped and safety measures are improved.
Local officials are engaging with protesters to resolve the situation, but as of now, the blockade persists. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the driver, with the police closely monitoring the developments.
