Public anger is escalating following the controversial police encounter of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in Bihar’s Bhojpur district. In Bilauti village, a Mahapanchayat was held where attendees vowed to continue protesting until justice is served. Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor emphasized the need for accountability not only for the officers involved in the shooting but also for those who ordered the operation.
The encounter in Bihar has sparked criticism from Kishor, who condemned the growing culture of such incidents in the state. He highlighted the lack of condolences from the Chief Minister to the victim’s family and criticized the handling of the case. Kishor stressed that the matter goes beyond a mere encounter, calling for accountability at the highest levels of authority.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Kishor reiterated the demand for justice, not just suspensions of lower-level officials. He questioned the government’s handling of the case and the announced judicial inquiry, seeking clarity on its scope and participants. Kishor warned of escalating protests if justice is not served and vowed to seek a meeting with the Chief Minister within 15 days.
Bharat Bhushan Tiwari lost his life in a police encounter on June 17, leading to conflicting narratives between the police and the victim’s family. While officials claim self-defense, the family asserts that Tiwari had surrendered before being shot. The incident has stirred public debate, with demands for an impartial investigation and accountability for those involved.
