Widespread anger gripped Pakur district in Jharkhand as a young man lost his life in a tragic road accident involving a school bus near the district headquarters. Following the incident, hundreds of people took to the streets, blocking major roads and prompting the closure of markets in protest.
The fatal accident took place around 9 a.m. near Gandhi Chowk, a busy intersection in Pakur, when a school bus collided with a scooter ridden by the victim, a young delivery boy, causing a severe head injury that led to his immediate death.
The victim, identified as Mridul Saha, aged around 18 and a resident of Talwadanga village, was the sole provider for his family and worked as a delivery executive with a quick commerce company. As news of the tragedy spread, local residents gathered at the scene, placing the body on the road near Gandhi Chowk and accusing the administration and police of negligence.
Protesters highlighted the chaotic traffic management in the area, alleging that heavy vehicles and buses were allowed to pass through despite a no-entry rule, resulting in frequent accidents. The agitated crowd set up barricades, blocking major roads and causing significant disruptions to vehicular movement across the city.
Tensions escalated further as protesters reached the city police station, setting tires ablaze and chanting slogans against the police. Their demands included the seizure of the school bus, the arrest of the driver, and compensation for the victim’s family. Senior police officials, responding to the situation, engaged in discussions with the protesters, assuring a thorough investigation and promising strict action against those found responsible. Subsequently, the protesters agreed to end the road blockade around 4 p.m.
