Public sector oil marketing companies in Gujarat have seen a significant monthly sales growth rate exceeding 80%, as reported by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. This surge in sales is accompanied by brief and localized fuel availability pressures in the state, mainly due to panic buying and rapid stock turnover at petrol pumps.
The Department clarified that the quick sale of fuel at stations has led to short-duration gaps during replenishment cycles from terminals. However, these interruptions are not indicative of any structural supply shortage. To address this issue, the Department is actively monitoring and collecting data across all districts, identifying pumps with low or no stock and mapping areas with high demand.
Efforts are being made to manage distribution effectively by engaging in continuous monitoring and data collection. Regular coordination meetings are being conducted with major oil marketing companies like Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to review supply levels and prioritize tanker movements to locations facing low stock.
The state government has confirmed that there are no restrictions on refueling vehicle tanks and that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available in Gujarat. Authorities have urged citizens to disregard rumors on social media about fuel shortages, emphasizing that the overall supply situation in the state is normal.
