Pune Police conducted a significant operation targeting illegal weapons in the city, resulting in the arrest of three habitual offenders. The operation led to the recovery of a country-made pistol, a live cartridge, and a luxury BMW car. The seized property is valued at approximately Rs 7,40,500, as per officials.
The crackdown took place under a special drive initiated by the Pune Police Commissionerate from April 18 to April 24, 2026. The operation aimed to identify and take strict action against individuals engaged in illegal arms possession. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Anti-Extortion Squad-02 (Khandani Virodhi Pathak-02) intensified surveillance in the Parimandal-6 jurisdiction.
During routine patrolling on April 23, a team led by Inspector Gaurav Dev received confidential information about two known offenders, Omkar Ghule and Narayan Puri. The tip-off mentioned that they were traveling in a white BMW car in the Undri area and were in possession of an illegal firearm. In response, senior officers directed the team to set up a trap.
The police intercepted the vehicle near Jai Raj Washing Centre on the Undri Chowk–Mohammadwadi Road. Upon searching the car, they found three accused individuals inside—Omkar Balasaheb Ghule (27), Narayan Vishwanath Puri (27), and Swapnil Nandkumar Hiremeth (25). Omkar Ghule was found with a country-made pistol, while Narayan Puri had a live cartridge. The BMW car used by the accused was also seized on the spot.
All three accused have prior criminal records and have been involved in multiple serious offenses in the past, according to police officials. A case has been registered at Kalepadal Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the weapon and potential links to other criminal networks. The operation was overseen by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Pankaj Deshmukh, who are intensifying efforts to combat organized and arms-related crime in Pune city.
