A 25-year-old woman from Pune was arrested for pretending to be a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) when she visited a skin clinic wearing a police uniform. The incident occurred as she sought an early appointment with a doctor by posing as a police officer. The woman’s actions led to her arrest under Sections 204 and 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mahesh Shinde, from Lashkar Police Station, encountered the woman at Dr. Ashfaq Sayed’s Sanjeevan Skin Clinic in Pune’s Camp area. Noticing irregularities in her attire, including discrepancies in the uniform’s insignia and nameplate, ASI Shinde became suspicious. The woman, identified as Samina Asif Inamdar, claimed to be from Baner Police Station and had visited the clinic after a night shift.
Upon questioning, the woman confessed her long-standing desire to become a police officer but failing to qualify for recruitment. She admitted to getting a police-style uniform stitched and visiting the clinic in the hope of receiving special treatment. Despite her efforts to pass off as a police officer, investigations revealed she was not associated with the police force. Authorities are now probing whether she had used the uniform for other deceptive purposes.
