The Punjab and Haryana High Court has requested the Punjab government’s stance on the removal of security protection for Rajya Sabha MP Rajinder Gupta. Gupta, also the Chairman Emeritus of the Trident Group, had challenged the withdrawal of his security cover in court. His advocate mentioned that Gupta had been provided security by the Punjab Police for two decades, with the number of personnel increasing to nine in 2025 due to a perceived threat. Gupta personally funded four of these security personnel. Allegations were made that after Gupta switched from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP, all nine security personnel were withdrawn, leading to incidents at his residences and the filing of an FIR in Chandigarh. The advocate criticized the security withdrawal as “illegal, arbitrary, and with malafide intent.” The Punjab government’s counsel informed the court that a report on the issue had been submitted in a sealed cover and that Gupta was under security provided by the Central government. The High Court questioned the Punjab government’s responsibility in the matter and sought clarity on the nature of the security provided by the Central government, while also instructing that no harm should befall Gupta or his family in Punjab.
