A seasoned thrower from Punjab showcased dominance in men’s shot put at the Indian Athletics Series in Sangrur, Punjab, with a best throw of 19.97m. Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor is preparing for an upcoming major domestic competition in Ranchi this month to peak in international meets.
The national record holder aims to excel in major international competitions this season, with a season-best throw of 21.03m achieved in April at the Delhi-leg of the Indian Athletics Series. The event in Sangrur also saw Annu Rani, a two-time Olympian and Asian Games champion in women’s javelin throw, testing her readiness with a third-place finish at 55.78m.
In the women’s javelin throw, Haryana’s Shilpa Rani secured first place with a throw of 57.65m, followed by Rashmi K from Andhra Pradesh in the second spot with 56.15m. The one-day meet in Sangrur witnessed Harjit Singh of Air Force and Fatema Begam of Tripura emerging as the fastest male and female runners, respectively.
Kiran Pahal from Haryana comfortably won the women’s 400m race with a time of 54.07 seconds. The event also featured various other track and field competitions with athletes from different states showcasing their talents across different disciplines.
