A delegation from the Punjab BJP, led by state President Sunil Jakhar, met with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to request the removal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Jakhar expressed concerns about Mann’s behavior during the recent Assembly session, alleging that his reported intoxicated state renders him unfit to lead Punjab, a sensitive border state. The party emphasized the need for a new leader due to Mann’s perceived loss of moral authority to continue as Chief Minister.
Jakhar highlighted that the party urged the Governor to prompt the ruling party to select a new leader, citing concerns over Mann’s ability to lead effectively. The delegation also sought the Governor’s intervention to ensure that officials, including the Chief Secretary, can work without undue influence or pressure. Allegations were made regarding threats and humiliation directed at the Chief Secretary during a recent Cabinet meeting.
The BJP chief stressed the importance of officials being able to work independently and in compliance with the law, free from fear or coercion. He underscored the need for constitutional protection for officials acting within legal boundaries. Jakhar criticized the recent Assembly session, suggesting it was convened by the Chief Minister to safeguard his position, rather than for genuine legislative purposes.
