Punjab’s BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha Vice-President, Paramjit Singh Kainth, urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to release a white paper on alleged irregularities in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) over the past decade. Kainth emphasized the need for a time-bound inquiry to recover and prosecute any wrongdoing discovered.
Kainth stressed the importance of transparency by making verifiable data public, including job cards, demand records, employment details, muster rolls, and social audit compliance at district, block, and gram panchayat levels. He highlighted that a white paper would enable citizens to evaluate the effectiveness of fund distribution and the sustainability of assets created.
The BJP leader raised concerns about recurring irregularities such as fake job cards, inflated muster rolls, and payments without corresponding work. He called for the disclosure of ongoing departmental inquiries, FIRs filed, recoveries made, and actions taken against officials to prevent future occurrences.
Welcoming the Viksit Bharat — Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB G RAM G) Act, 2025, Kainth viewed it as a crucial reform initiative to enhance rural employment services and infrastructure development. He emphasized the need for stringent accountability and service standards, especially in states with integrity issues.
