The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed and allocated more than 21,000 affordable homes to economically weaker families. Additionally, proposals for nearly 24,000 more housing units have been submitted under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Gujarat’s largest city.
A total of 21,056 houses have been completed and allotted under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS-I) category of PMAY 1.0. Construction of another 10,431 units is currently in progress. These EWS-I homes have a carpet area of 28 square meters and include essential amenities like parking, stainless steel sinks, and round-the-clock water supply.
Under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Scheme (ISSR)-2013, AMC has completed 9,662 houses with a carpet area of 30 square meters. Work on an additional 16,744 units is underway. The houses come with amenities such as vitrified tile flooring, earthquake-resistant construction, and lifts.
The next phase of the program is expected to expand the housing stock significantly across the city. AMC aims to construct 50,000 houses under PMAY 2.0 and has already submitted Detailed Project Reports covering 23,958 housing units for approval. These include proposals for slum locations, lake-area settlements, and various housing schemes.
