Punjab BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal, accompanied by 25 sarpanches and representatives from around 50 villages in the Sahnewal assembly, presented a memorandum to the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner urging a stop to illegal mining in the region.
Baliawal, speaking to the press later, expressed concern over the ongoing mining operations despite the AAP government’s assurances to curb illegal mining in Punjab. He highlighted the anxiety among residents living near the mining sites, emphasizing the potential risks to residential areas and farmlands.
Residents from approximately 50 villages have joined forces against the mining activities, criticizing the government for its failure to crack down on illegal mining. Baliawal emphasized the need for immediate intervention, warning of potential flood threats during the monsoon if mining near river areas continues unchecked.
Union Minister B.L. Verma had previously visited Sasrali village in Sahnewal to assess flood prevention measures, acknowledging the significant impact of illegal mining on agricultural land. The minister assured affected residents of the government’s support in addressing the challenges posed by illegal mining activities.
