Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, inaugurated a new Olympic-standard swimming pool in Sangrur, costing Rs 9.50 crore. He expressed confidence that Sangrur is on track to become a breeding ground for future Asian, World, and Olympic champions. The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s increased sports budget, the hosting of the Asian Hockey Championship Trophy, and plans for cricket and hockey premier leagues to nurture talent.
The inauguration ceremony was a moment of pride for the people of Sangrur, especially the youth, as the modern swimming pool was dedicated to them. Chief Minister Mann emphasized that the facility would play a crucial role in grooming future Olympians. He underscored the government’s commitment to bolstering sports infrastructure, aiming to reclaim Punjab’s status as a leading sporting state in India.
The state-of-the-art swimming pool, built at a cost of Rs 9.50 crore, adheres to international standards and Olympic specifications. Spanning 50 meters by 21 meters, with a depth of 4.5 to 7.5 feet and a water capacity of 2.5 lakh liters, the pool is equipped with modern amenities. The complex includes modern shower facilities, changing rooms, coach rooms, and storage spaces to enhance the experience for athletes.
In addition to the main pool, the facility features a modern gymnasium to help athletes enhance their physical conditioning. A separate mini pool has been designed for children under seven years old. Constructed using cutting-edge technology, including Myrtha RenovAction and Classic Modular System, the swimming pool is one of the most advanced in the country. It boasts laminated PVC and stainless-steel panels, along with a filtration and disinfection system meeting European standards for water safety.
Chief Minister Mann urged parents in Sangrur and neighboring areas to support their children in pursuing sports activities. He assured that the government would continue to prioritize sports development, ensuring ample facilities and funding for aspiring athletes.
