Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a significant increase in the monthly honorarium for sarpanches from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000, effective from August 15. He emphasized the crucial role played by sarpanches in serving villages tirelessly and highlighted the need to recognize their contributions with dignity and respect.
CM Mann stressed the importance of village development in driving the progress of the state, assuring that there are ample funds available for rural development initiatives. He urged sarpanches to ensure transparent utilization of public funds while leading efforts towards a prosperous Punjab. Mann also pointed out that previous governments had failed to fulfill their promises of adequate honorarium for sarpanches.
Highlighting the pivotal role of panchayats in democracy, the Chief Minister underlined their strength and influence within villages. He emphasized the responsibility of sarpanches in safeguarding the interests and aspirations of villagers. Mann noted that with around 70% of the population residing in villages, Panchayati Raj Institutions are crucial pillars of democracy, guiding the state’s development.
Mann emphasized that panchayats act as crucial facilitators in implementing the government’s welfare schemes at the grassroots level. While policies are formulated at the government level, it is the sarpanches and panches who play a vital role in executing these initiatives on the ground, ensuring their effective implementation.
